Day-surgery and surgical waiting time.

چکیده
UNLABELLED Surgical waiting time remains an important issue regarding access to health care provision. It is considered to be excessive in most OEDC countries (over twelve weeks or ninety days). The development of day surgery has been one of the strategies that proved effective in reducing surgical waiting time. This study aims to establish a correlation between surgical waiting time and the percentage of day-surgery cases, in hospitals with surgical services, in the Portuguese National Health Services, during 2006. METHODOLOGY An observational, analytical and ecological study was conducted to establish the correlations existing between surgical waiting time and the percentage of day-surgery procedures realized, as well as associations with other variables, through multivariate and correlation analysis. RESULTS A negative, statistically significant Spearman's correlation was observed between the percentage of day-surgery cases and the waiting surgical time for eletive procedures.

Appointment process of open-heart surgery in Shahid Rajaei Heart Hospital using a discrete event simulation approach
Background: The waiting list is a list of selected patients in the surgical queue. If demand exceeds capacity, the waiting list grows rapidly, which may lead to unacceptable waiting for patients, especially those in need of acute medical care. Patients waiting for heart surgery are placed on the waiting list for surgery, and sometimes the waiting time is longer than patients expect. Reducing th...

Background: According to the importance of health and treatment, it is necessary to use suitable models for planning and setting surgery time. In this study, a mathematical model is offered for operational scheduling of surgeries at surgery rooms of hospitals. Material and Methods: This is an applied study and its data is related to the surgery rooms of Zahedan Al-Zahra eye hospital. Study ...

Scheduling elective surgeries is a dynamic, sequential decision-making 1 process that must balance the costs of deferring waiting cases and blocking higher2 priority cases. Although other surgery scheduling problems have received extensive 3 treatment in the literature, this paper presents the first single-day scheduling problem 4 formulation to capture this aspect of the scheduling process whi...
متن کاملThe One-stop trial: Does electronic referral and booking by the general practitioner (GPs) to outpatient day case surgery reduce waiting time and costs? A randomized controlled trial protocol
BACKGROUND Waiting time and costs from referral to day case outpatient surgery are at an unacceptably high level. The waiting time in Norway averages 240 days for common surgical conditions. Furthermore, in North Norway the population is scattered throughout a large geographic area, making the cost of travel to a specialist examination before surgery considerable. Electronic standardised referr...
متن کاملAssessing Patient Satisfaction with Day Surgery at A
With the advances in health care technology, many surgical procedures are performed as day surgery cases. The provision of day surgery is considered to be a cost effective method of utilising resources, but it does challenge nurses to provide optimal patient care during the patient’s short stay in hospital. Patient satisfaction is considered to be an important indicator of quality nursing care....
